According to the Journal of the American Medical Association and reported at CNN.com giving children antibiotics for ear infections does little to speed their recovery while raising the risk of some side effects.
It would be an understatement to say that antibiotics are overused in this country. Many concerned parents rush straight to their doctor at the first sign of a fever to get antibiotics. This is an incorrect and even dangerous thing t do. First of all fever isn’t a bad thing unless it is over 102 degrees for a long period of time. Fevers are a natural process of the body to destroy infectious agents. Although fevers are miserable to go through, they have a healing purpose and should run their normal course in most cases. Fevers actually help to get the patient well faster with much less reoccurrence. Most medical doctors don’t have the time or the resources to run a culture on every patient to determine if the infection is viral or bacterial. This causes the doctor to either decide to not treat the patient and send them home for observation, (basically do nothing) or to prescribe antibiotics along with their harmful side effects. In my opinion both of these options are wrong. There is a simple invasive way to check if the infection is bacterial or viral and a way to determine what specific nutritional supplement should be used to correct the problem.
I see children as well as adults in my practice everyday who have infections and I use a system of muscle response testing in conjunction with acupuncture points or meridian access points to determine the type of infection and the correct nutritional protocol to use for either a bacterial or viral infection. When evaluated and treated this way the body reacts much faster, better and much more safe without the dangerous side effects of antibiotics.
